Editor’s Comment

Essex Life - - EDITOR'S COMMENT -

Wow, what a summer! In fact, depending upon your view of the weather, 2018 saw the best summer ever – or did it? As you might expect, the competition to be the hottest summer on record was, well, hotly contested. So close were the figures that the Met Office has declared 2018 as the joint hottest summer on record, together with 2006, 2003 and 1976. The margin between the mean temperatures at the top of the league tables (with records dating back to 1910) is so small, at around 0.03 of a degree, that it is impossible to separate the years.

Following such a summer, the Essex Life team felt that even in our October issue there should be one final salute to the super sunshine, and what better way to celebrate the great weather than pictures from our readers of their dogs frolicking around on our county’s beaches? A quick message on facebook, and the rest is history – well, actually recorded for posterity from page 20.

You might think that living in a French chateau is like a holiday everyday, but anyone who has watched the Escape to the Chateau Channel 4 series and seen the exploits of Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree will know that’s far from the truth. When I found out that Angel had Essex roots, I just had to invite her to be interviewed in Essex Life. It turns out that owning a chateau in France is just a step on the road to Angel’s dream of owning a home in Southend. So will a fairytale castle tower over Southend Pier? With Angel’s determination and Essex work ethic, I wouldn’t bet against it.

There is still time to get your tickets for our Autumn Splendour Fashion Show, hosted at Channels near Chelmsford on September 20. It should be a fabulous evening with a spectacular catwalk presentation and a delicious menu, all for less than £25. To book tickets, call 01245 440005
