The Great Pilgrimage 90 (GP 90), the biggest Royal British Legion (RBL) membership event for a generation, took place at The Menin Gate at Ypres on August 8. The ceremony commemorated The Great Pilgrimage made in 1928, 10 years after the end of World War I. It also served to commemorate the centenary of the final silence of the guns on the Western Front in 1918 and to remember those that never returned home.

Representatives from a total of 1,147 branches, groups and counties in UK participated in GP 90 including 36 branches from Essex County along with the County Standard and the Women’s Section Standard. One representative carried the Standard while the other carried a wreath containing a remembrance message from their community or local school. The remembrance wreaths were collected as the parade marched to The Menin Gate and were subsequently built into a display within the Commonwealth War Graves Commission grounds that surround the memorial.
