Scenes of the county from our readers
I live near Manningtree with my partner and our dog, and love to go for long walks in the countryside with the camera (the dog has learned to be very patient while I get my shot). I got back into photography about four years ago after a long break and did some evening classes to learn more about digital photography. I do enjoy taking shots of nature and the countryside, but the course has encouraged me to try some different subject types. The images here were taken in either the Halstead area, near Manningtree or on Mersea Island.
I am a retired professional driver and due to a serious illness I have spent the last two months in hospital. I am now convalescing at home and to pass the time I invested in a new telephoto lens for my Canon EOS 5D Mark 3 with a range of 150-600 mm. I cannot tell you what a difference it has made to my photographic results as I am now able to take pictures of the local wildlife without scaring them away. I am by no means a prolific photographer, but with the right equipment it is amazing what you can achieve. I started by snapping in my own back garden and managed to capture a thrush collecting various bugs and insects to take back to its nest. The following day I managed a walk around the nearby Lake Meadows Park in Billericay and the new lens opened my eyes to the abundance of beautiful wildlife in residence there.
