King’s Head pub crowned top gar­den

A pop­u­lar pub in Bil­ler­icay has been recog­nised as hav­ing one of the UK’s best beer gar­dens af­ter emerg­ing tri­umphant from a com­pe­ti­tion run by na­tional pub chain Vin­tage Inns.

The King’s Head was crowned as the re­gional win­ner of The Mar­vel­lous Vin­tage Inns Gar­den Com­pe­ti­tion for Es­sex. The con­test, which be­gan in April, aimed to find the very best spots in which the Bri­tish pub­lic could en­joy their favourite drink in the sum­mer sun.

The judges unan­i­mously opted for The King’s Head thanks to its per­fectly man­i­cured dis­plays, am­ple seat­ing space and beau­ti­fully kept lawns. The pub se­cured a Fever Tree gar­den kit in hon­our of their achieve­ment.

Dat­ing back to 1750, when trav­ellers jour­ney­ing be­tween Rochford and Brent­wood would stop at The King’s Head for re­fresh­ment, the his­toric pub of­fers a wel­com­ing out­door area for those look­ing to en­joy a quiet drink at the end of a busy day ex­plor­ing the coun­try­side or once they have es­caped the of­fice.

Michael Bre­it­sprecher, land­lord at The King’s Head, said: ‘We are proud of the gar­den here at The King’s Head and take pride in main­tain­ing it to en­sure it is wel­com­ing and en­joy­able for all our guests. We like to think it is the per­fect place for peo­ple to stop for a re­fresh­ing drink af­ter a hard day’s work or a long walk in the coun­try­side.’
