Divine decor changed with the seasons
Mum really made an impact with marvellous makeovers
NICOLA Sheehan takes such pride in her home that she gives it a makeover twice a year. Her stunning property – 24 Grandholm Grove – is a vision in contemporary interior design with its crisp, modern shades and bold wallpaper prints. But mum-of-three Nicola, 43, likes to freshen up its look every six months or so – much to husband Tim’s frustration. “Most of the colours just now are colours for winter,” said full-time mum Nicola, who has also spent time living in Houston, due to Tim’s role as a CEO of an oil and gas company. “Iwould describe my taste as classic with a modern twist. “If we weren’t getting ready to leave, I’d be planning to brighten up the decor with lighter shades for spring and summer.” Nicola, husband Tim, 52, and their three girls – Rebecca, 20, Miranda, 18, and Brooklyn, 16 – moved into their home, near Danestone, seven-anda-half years ago, after returning to Aberdeen from the US. They were attracted to the idea of living in a new village, which Grandholm was at that time, and when they saw the corner plot that would become their five-bedroom home, against a backdrop of woodland and views of the River Don, they fell in love with it. And with bright, spacious rooms which include a beautiful big lounge, separate family room and games room, conservatory and a kitchen big enough for an additional family or dining area, it’s no wonder Nicola always has a full house at the weekend. “It’s good to have so much space as we’ve always got a houseful,” she said. “With us and the girls plus their friends and boyfriends, there’s always guests here at weekends which is nice. The lounge is my favourite room because it feels huge. We spend a lot of time together in the kitchen, too, and we’ve adapted it to
our taste with granite worktops and a breakfast bar.” The immaculate decor continues upstairs, with each bedroom styled in its own unique, modern way. The master bedroom is stunning, with furniture shipped over from Houston, set against a dramatic black and gold colour scheme. The Sheehans are getting ready to move further out of town but will miss their Grandholm Village location. “It’s perfect as it’s only 10 minutes from the city centre, yet you’d never believe how tranquil it is.” Nicola added. “Grandholm has lots of amenities including a restaurant, hairdressers and dentist – and it’s not all finished yet, there’s more to come. Plus residents get exclusive use of a private bridge across the River Don.”
