‘Story’ book gem has own secret garden
Fond memories of rural home with acres of space
THE Story children have great tales to tell about growing up in their spacious Maryculter home. For Berrylow comes complete with a “secret garden” – a kids’ paradise in its two-acre grounds. Dad Tony, 53, a hotels managing director, said: “I really do have mixed feelings about leaving here as it has been a wonderful home to us. “It’s been a happy time for my wife Anne and I, especially raising our three children here. “With our children now grown up we have decided to downsize and move to Inverness for work purposes. “Our children have had an adventurous, idyllic childhood here. “Our two-acre garden is surrounded by parkland where often you can see families of deer roaming around – and I know the children have especially enjoyed having their own secret garden.” And if all that wasn’t enough, Tony enthuses about the views too. “The views are marvellous, but none more so than the view of the hills from our yellow room.” Since Tony moved into Berrylow he has added three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a self-contained flat behind the double garage. Quality wood flooring has been laid in many of the rooms, while the home also has large windows from where Tony can watch his dog Snoop run around. A welcoming vestibule leads through to all rooms on the ground floor. A tiled cloakroom is just off the vestibule, next to a spacious guest bedroom with en-suite bathroom. In the attractive lounge there is a large picture window which overlooks the garden and countryside. The room has an antique pine fire surround with cast-iron inset. Next door, in the dining room, large patio doors lead out to the garden. There are also double glass doors leading to the main hall. But according to Tony, the hub of the home is the recently-upgraded kitchen which measures 50sq metres. “My whole family are foodies,” he said. “And there’s nothing we all love more than having a get-together in our kitchen.” The quality units have Corian work surfaces and also a peninsular breakfast bar unit which separates the kitchen from the breakfast/family room. The master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, the sitting/family room, study, shower room and double bedroom completes the layout of the ground floor. On the first floor at the top of the staircase there is a large walk-in cupboard offering plenty of storage. Two double bedrooms and toilet
complete the layout of the upper floor. Attached to the property and accessed from the outside is a separate building which accommodates the utility room and office/lounge. A self-contained flat with studio area and shower room completes the layout of the property. Berrylow itself is surrounded by stunning landscaped garden grounds with extensive space for parking. “It’s been a fabulous home to us. I just hope the next owners enjoy it as much as we have,” said Tony.
