Prescription for perfect family home
Medics say sad farewell to property full of character
AS FAR as the Hamilton family are concerned, this period three bedroom house is just what the doctor ordered. Natalia and Steven, who are both in the medical profession, were captivated by the property’s character and original features when they went to view it seven years ago. And it’s been a peaceful and spacious home for raising their little ones – Matilda, 5, Henry, 2 and Florence, 1. “We really did fall madly in love with it as soon as we stepped inside,” said Natalia, who works as a GP. “We bought it just before we got married and were looking for a home to raise our family. “We loved all the period features and we think it’s a fascinating house – it’s 110 years old and still has the dado rails in most rooms, ceiling roses and original fireplaces which we use today. “The spare bedroom also has an original servant’s bell which we love.” Natalia and Steven – an orthopaedic surgeon – have put in a new bathroom and redecorated throughout the property, which is much bigger than it appears from outside. Particularly attractive are the spacious lounge with its stunning fireplace and wooden floors, and the dining room with view of the enclosed garden. The kitchen is perfect for a family, on semi-open plan with a breakfast room so mum and dad can keep an eye on the children as they cook. Each of the bedrooms have been decorated with warm and bright colours. Natalia said: “I’d like to think our taste is quite modern and something that others will like. “My favourite room is our dining room. We’ve had many happy occasions and family Christmases in the house. “Steven really loves all the period features. We also enjoy the garden as it’s enclosed and surrounded by tall trees including oaks, which is from where the street takes its name. “It has a very quiet and private feel, despite Mannofield being close to everything you would need.” Natalia and Steven first moved to Aberdeen for university and both have family slightly further afield. As a result the family are on the lookout for a slightly larger property, still in Aberdeen. “My family are from outside Glasgow and Steven’s are in Northern Ireland,” she added.
