Rural family home looks out over golf course.
WHEN it comes to a room with a view, it doesn’t get much better than this. The conservatory at Forest Lodge, Wood of Muiresk, looks out to the fifth green of Turriff Golf Course. And with the sun streaming into the garden and the birds twittering in the trees above, Jens and Maureen Arpe feel like they’ve really scored a hole-inone with their property. “We were first attracted to the rural location, lovely garden and the fact that it was just a mile from the town of Turriff,” said 66-year-old Maureen, a retired hotelier. “Jens enjoys golf and was planning to lower his handicap by playing on the course. We’ve spent a lot of time in our conservatory making the most of the views.” The house has been perfect for Maureen and 68-year-old Jens, who is well-known in Aberdeen as the former general manager of the former Skean Dhu Hotel at Altens. The couple love to entertain and have held countless dinner parties, barbecues and lunches over the years. They’ve enjoyed tending their garden, which has its own bridge leading directly to the golf course. And with five big bedrooms, a lounge and an additional sitting room – it’s a deceptively large house with lots of space for their children and grandchildren when they pay a visit. Maureen and Jens will be moving into a smaller German kit house, designed to be eco-friendly and very lowenergy to run. But they will look back fondly on their time at Forest Lodge. Maureen added: “There are no streetlights out here so when you go out at night-time it’s a black sky that’s just filled with stars. “We’ve even seen the Northern Lights from the house before. “It’s so peaceful here – it’s heavenly.” Forest Lodge at Wood of Muiresk, Turriff, is on the market for offers over £275,000.
