“We’ve loved

living here”

AS SOON as Kelly McLaren saw the turret bay window at 306A Great Western Road, she fell for the West End property. “I automatically wanted to live here,” said Kelly, a document controller for Aker Solutions. The 29-year-old, whose family is originally from Trinidad but who was raised in the North-east, said: “I knew right away I wanted to put a round dining room table there and have lots of friends round to show it off and that’s exactly what I’ve done.” Kelly and her husband Neil, 30, a mechanical engineer from Bridge of Don, bought the property fourand-a-half years ago. Neil had been living in a Bridge of Don flat and Kelly stayed with her parents in Westhill. They both wanted a property they could call home in the city which was close to pubs and restaurants. They also wanted a traditional granite building with period features and big windows. The Great Western Road property ticked those boxes. The property was in a good condition with mainly decorative work needed. “The first thing we did was put a carpet down in the living room along with painting that room and the hall. We then did some touch-up work in the kitchen and the second bedroom,” said Kelly. The bathroom was a bigger job so the couple waited until they were on their honeymoon in Barbados to get the workmen in. The trendy couple have gone for a magnolia hall with every room in a different, bold colour. While their home doesn’t have a garden, Duthie Park is not too far away. With the birth of their baby,

The nursery/bedroom at 306A Great Western Road, Aberdeen, is just one of the lovely rooms in the two-bedroom, first-floor, apartment in the popular West End.

Alexander seven weeks ago, they now want a family home in the Westhill area. Kelly said: “My parents are still in the area and I know how good Westhill is to be brought up in. “We’ve absolutely loved living here but it’s time to move to a more family-orientated area.”

HAPPY HOME: Kelly and Neil McLaren with new baby son Alexander.

ATTRACTIVE: The lounge, master bedroom and kitchen are all bright and modern.
