‘We camped out in car to stake claim’
Couple’s three-night vigil paid off
LAURA and Shaun Mitchell went to extraordinary lengths to bag the home of their dreams in Insch. The young professional couple spent three nights sleeping in their car to ensure they were first in the queue for the house of their dreams. The house had yet to be built – with only the foundations laid – when the pair launched their marathon wait to secure it. Laura, 29, an accounts assistant with Reel Group, said: “We spent three nights sleeping in the car to make sure we were first in the queue to buy one of only four that were being built. “It wasn’t too bad and it was, without a doubt, certainly worth the trouble. “A few other couples turned up over that weekend, so at least we got the chance to know the neighbours in advance.” Laura and Shaun, 33, a manager with Laing’s Direct Line, couldn’t wait to move in to their first family home and become part of the small community in 2007. The ground floor accommodation includes a cloakroom, lounge, open-plan kitchen and dining area with sun lounge – Laura’s favourite room. The lower floor also has a utility room. Upstairs are the master bedroom with en-suite, two further bedrooms, and a family bathroom. With the addition of daughter Charlotte, who is 15 months old, the Mitchells are looking to upgrade to a new home close by. And they also hope to extend their family. “We’ve loved living here, and take with us really happy memories,” said Laura. “Every time I think of leaving I get a lump in my throat. “But I have to remind myself it’s only bricks and mortar. ”
MOVING ON: Laura, Shaun and Charlotte Mitchell are now looking for a bigger home.
