GRACE and Carl Hambling are sharing their Portlethen home with two real lovebirds these days. The couple, who have lived at 5 Craighead Avenue for 20 years, have been joined in their secluded back garden most days by a pair of doves. Grace, 72, who recently retired after 27 years working for Next, said: “Carl and I sit out the back most mornings to have our breakfast. “It’s quite an event when the doves come and join us as we spend ages just sitting watching them feeding and taking a bath.” Carl, 63, a retired offshore crane operator, and Grace moved to Portlethen in 1975 from Yorkshire. “Carl was working for Chevron at the time,” said Grace. And the couple later moved into their immaculate, sunny, spacious home when it was a new-build. Over the years, their five children have flown the coop, and the home is filled with many wonderful memories. “We’ve had countless happy times here and it’s just wonderful we are on to the next generation with our six grandchildren,” said Grace. And no weekend at the house would be complete without their

grandson, Frank Hambling, 2, who likes to come over for sleepovers – to spend time with his “GDad”. Grace said: “Frank has his own bedroom here and there’s nothing he enjoys more than spending all his time with Carl in the back garden, watching the birds.” Grace and Carl are now on the look-out for a

bungalow.
