Easter holiday festival of fun-filled drama and activities
SPRING must be on its way, and with it comes a special arts festival at Aberdeen Arts Centre. This week saw the launch of online bookings for the venue’s Spring Arts Festival, offering fun-filled drama and arts-based activities for 3 to 16-year-olds in a city centre location during the school Easter holidays. Paula Gibson, executive manager of Aberdeen Arts Centre explained: “Each year more than 20,000 children and young people come through our doors and our Spring, Summer and Autumn Festivals play a huge part in this. “Our Easter Festival has really grown from strength to strength over the past two years and, as always, we’re excited about our workshops for 2011 and have taken on board feedback from parents and the young people themselves.” The two-week long festival – now in its second year and attracting more than 2,500 young people – runs from Monday, April 4, through to Friday, April 15, with twohour sessions running from 10am-noon and 1pm-3pm. Activities on offer include a chance to travel on a space-tacular action-packed drama adventure with Barry Donaldson Or those taking part can learn new theatre skills with Marie Skene. There is also the chance to enjoy the joys of jewellerymaking and charisma of crafts with Alison Watson. And let’s not forget the
opportunity to sing along to your favourite musicals with Michelle Bruce. Places can be booked online or in person at Aberdeen Arts Centre Box Office. Paula explained: “We introduced an online booking system for our Summer Carnival and this was a huge success. It’s the first time that we’ve used the system for the Easter Festival but we feel it definitely makes it easier for people to reach us.” Holiday Arts Festivals have been running at the Arts Centre during the summer for more than 29 years, offering two to five-week programmes of workshops in performing arts, drama, dance, music, craft and animation. Building on the strength of the Summer Carnival, Spring and Autumn Festivals have been added to the Centre’s programme.
