MAN HELD IN FIREARMS RAID
Shock after police swoop on home
A MAN has been charged in relation to alleged firearms offences following a dawn raid.
Police swooped on a property in Cloverfield Close, in Bucksburn, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
A 23-year-old man has subsequently been charged and will appear in court on Monday.
Detective Inspector David Howieson said: “Search warrants were executed at an address in the Cloverfield area of Bucksburn on Thursday as part of an ongoing inquiry.
“A 23-year-old man has been charged in relation to alleged firearms offences and is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday.
“There will be a police presence at the location for the time being while further inquiries are carried out.”
Forensics could be seen yesterday at a block of flats on the street. Residents also spoke of their shock. Teacher Sandra Williams, 51, who lives on the street, said the area is normally quiet and friendly.
She said: “The actual street itself is great. We look after each other.
“I’ve been here since the houses were built, and it’s not something you really want on your doorstep and it’s not something you expect.
“It’s very worrying.
“It’s upsetting and unnerving.” Another resident, Claire Webster, 37, said: “It’s a bit of a shock.
“There’s a lot of kids in the area so it’s not the kind of thing that you want.
“It’s normally quite quiet. “Because it’s a cul-de-sac, the kids all roam freely here. “It’s a bit worrying.”
One female resident, who asked not to be named, said: “We’ve got older people and we’ve got young ones with kids.
“I think it’s shocking. “You would possibly expect other things like kids smoking but an alleged firearm offence is a bit more serious.”
Lord Provost Barney Crockett, who represents the area, said: “It’s a huge surprise in an area that’s very law abiding.
“These incidents are few and far between and I’m pleased the police have made an arrest.”
