Forces in Weinstein probe
BRITISH and US police are investigating sexual assault allegations involving the film producer Harvey Weinstein – as an executive at Amazon was drawn into the scandal.
The movie mogul is facing a litany of accusations of sexual harassment and assault from some of film’s biggest stars, with Kate Beckinsale becoming the latest British celebrity to speak out. Scotland Yard said detectives from a child abuse and sexual offences unit will be looking into an alleged sexual assault in the London area in the 1980s. The New York Police Department has also opened an investigation. Meanwhile, actress Rose McGowan made a series of claims in several tweets to Amazon chief executive and founder Jeff Bezos. She claimed she had told the studio repeatedly of Weinstein’s behaviour. Amazon said studio head Roy Price had been put on leave of absence “effective immediately”.
A PRANK almost proved fatal when a 28-year-old man swallowed a dover sole he had caught. The man had been joking around with the 14cm fish on Boscombe pier near Bournemouth in Dorset and put it over his mouth but it jumped down his throat – causing a complete blockage. Paramedic Matt Harrison said: “I have never attended a more bizarre incident – but we’re all so glad the patient has no lasting effects from his cardiac arrest, which could so easily have had such a tragic and devastating outcome.”
