Char­ity cel­e­brates hit­ting 40th birth­day mile­stone

A SO­CIAL hous­ing char­ity is cel­e­brat­ing a mile­stone birth­day this year. Langstane Hous­ing As­so­ci­a­tion is mark­ing its 40th an­niver­sary af­ter decades of help­ing vul­ner­a­ble and home­less peo­ple.

The or­gan­i­sa­tion’s first of­fice was a for­mer dairy on Ge­orge Street and now sits in a pur­pose-built of­fice in Seaton.

Be­fore 1981, the only place home­less women could go were un­suit­able night shel­ters, how­ever, Langstane in­tro­duced women-only hos­tels.

Re­cently, Langstane’s long­est serv­ing mem­ber of staff cel­e­brated 30 years of ser­vice.

The char­ity has also cap­tured its his­tory in a film.
