HUNDREDS of pounds have been donated to an Aberdeen man’s fundraising efforts after he was seriously injured in the United States.

As reported in later editions of yesterday’s Evening Express, Alan Corsie was in the middle of a sixweek adventure travelling across America when he was hit by a vehicle.

The 55-year-old suffered two broken ankles and a collapsed lung and didn’t regain consciousness for 24 hours after the accident on Saturday.

Alan, who now lives in Kinross, was on week five in his attempt to travel between San Diego in California and St Augustine in Florida.

The dad-of-three was aiming to raise £3,000 for Alzheimer Scotland having set out on his challenge on October 1. His Justgiving page was sitting at £2,700 before the accident but it has been boosted to £3,400 since.

Anna Devine, director of fundraising and marketing for Alzheimer Scotland, wished Alan a speedy recovery and said he should be proud of the money he has raised.

She said: “We’re really sorry to hear the terrible news that Alan has been involved in a road accident and is unable to finish his cycle. We know he will be terribly disappointed, especially so close to the finish, but he has raised a significant sum of money to support people living with dementia and he should feel really proud.

“We’ve had a great response on social media with people sending messages of support to Alan and donating to his fundraising page.

“On behalf of everyone at Alzheimer Scotland, we’d like to thank Alan for all his efforts and wish him a speedy recovery and a safe journey home.”

His daughter Abigail told the Evening Express her dad felt lucky to be alive and he is being cared for in the intensive care unit at a Tallahassee hospital in Florida. She said the money raised would bring great comfort to her dad and the family had received hundreds of messages of support since the crash.

The charity was chosen by Alan after his mum, gran and uncle all suffered Alzheimer’s Disease. People can donate to Alan’s fundraising efforts at www.justgiving.com/ fundraising/alan-corsie
