Do­na­tions to pay for a day at Maggie’s Cen­tre

A NORTH-EAST can­cer sup­port cen­tre has re­ceived a do­na­tion worth thou­sands of pounds – enough to sup­port dozens of peo­ple af­fected by the dis­ease.

It costs the Maggie’s Cen­tre, based in the Forester­hill Health Cam­pus be­side Aberdeen Royal In­fir­mary, £2,400 to fund its op­er­a­tion each day.

A do­na­tion from Aberdeen Stan­dard In­vest­ments’ char­i­ta­ble or­gan­i­sa­tion has now pro­vided that sum as part of the cen­tre’s Pay for a Day scheme.

The fa­cil­ity of­fers a drop-in ser­vice for pa­tients, fam­ily and friends af­fected by can­cer, pro­vid­ing a range of ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing ex­er­cise classes, stress man­age­ment cour­ses and sup­port groups.

Ev­ery day around 60 peo­ple ben­e­fit from the care at Maggie’s Aberdeen. Cen­tre head Su­san Suther­land said: “This in­cred­i­ble do­na­tion will make a mean­ing­ful, last­ing im­pact upon the lives of peo­ple who visit Maggie’s.” Claire Drum­mond, head of char­i­ta­ble giv­ing at the foun­da­tion, said: “We are proud to sup­port the Maggie’s Cen­tre in Aberdeen.”
