Man on assault charge

A MAN has been charged after a footballer was allegedly assaulted during an Aberdeen match. The Dons played Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday and it is understood the man was in the Aberdeen supporters’ section of the stadium when the alleged incident took place. A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We have arrested and charged a man in connection with the assault of a footballer during a match at Tynecastle Stadium in Edinburgh. “The 47-year-old is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.” Around 1,500 Dons fans made the trip to the capital for the game against the league leaders. Hearts won the match 2-1, despite a goal from Dons midfielder Gary Mackay-Steven.
