Fire crews tackle boat blaze

FIRE­FIGHT­ERS tack­led a blaze on board a north­east fish­ing ves­sel to­day.

Three fire ap­pli­ances and a height ve­hi­cle were called to the fire on the boat at Mac­duff Har­bour shortly af­ter 7.30am.

A Scot­tish Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice spokes­woman said: “The fire was lo­cated in the fish-car­ry­ing hold­ing area.

“We used seven breath­ing ap­pa­ra­tus, three hose reel jets and a ther­mal imag­ing cam­era.”

No one was on board the ves­sel at the time.

The blaze was brought back un­der con­trol in just over an hour, with the stop mes­sage com­ing back at 8.39am.

Crews re­mained on the scene while the ves­sel was ven­ti­lated.

Po­lice were also called to the in­ci­dent af­ter re­ceiv­ing re­ports that a box on board the ves­sel was on fire.

A Po­lice Scot­land spokes­woman said: “No­body was on board.”
