Alasdair signs up for Balmoral race
HIGHLAND Cross duathlon champion Alasdair Thomas is the latest top name to sign up for the Petrofac Challenge mixed terrain half marathon at Balmoral Castle.
The Midmar athlete is looking forward to the event which takes place on Sunday, April 24.
He said: “I have never competed at Balmoral before, but when I heard about the half marathon I decided to give it a go.
“It sounds like an interesting run and I’ll be using it to help with my preparations for the summer.”
Alasdair is used to putting himself forward for demanding endurance events.
He won the 50-mile Highland Cross Scottish coastto-coast race between Kintail and Beauly last June after many near misses.
Alasdair was runner-up the previous three years and was third in 2005.
He said: “I was very pleased to finally win it and I’ll be going all out to defend my title this year.”
Alasdair will also be c o mp e t i n g in July’s Corrieyairack duathlon, a 4 3 - mi l e r u n n i n g a n d cycling race between Fort Augustus and Kenmore.
Later in the year he’ll face another new test, as he explained: “I’m going to compete in the Iron Monster race at Loch Ness in September.
“It involves a marathon run down one side of Loch Ness then a 50-mile cycle up the other side.
“I’ve never done that one before, but it sounds interesting.”
