ABERDEEN Sports Village was the venue for a learners and special schools football tournament. A total of 11 teams competed for two trophies, with 25 games being played on the day. Dyce Academy took home one of the honours, beating Ellon 2-1 in the support for learners’ final. There was an identical score as Bucksburn Academy B defeated the Anna Ritchie A team in the special schools competition. The tournament was possible thanks to a growing partnership between Inverurie Locos and Aberdeenshire Council’s Disability sport officer Claire Bonner. That saw the game brought to children of all abilities across the Northeast. The day was supported by sports students from Moray College, who gained experience in officiating and event management. Claire said: “The festival was a great success showing that football is a game that can be enjoyed by people with all levels of ability. “The sportsmanship of the children was commendable in the way they supported fellow pupils and encouraged other schools.”
