Farm hit by blaze
A FARM building was left badly damaged after a blaze ripped through it. Crews from four of the region’s fire stations were called out to the scene. The outbuilding at Broomfold Farm, at Tough, near Alford, caught light about 10am yesterday. Grampian Fire and Rescue Service teams from Alford, Kintore and Inverurie, as well as a water carrier from Stonehaven, were sent to tackle the flames. The barn, used to store firewood, was almost destroyed, with the roof and two walls collapsing. Incident commander Arthur Smith said: “It was a fire in an outbuilding which was well alight by the time we arrived. “We contained it to the building without spread to the adjacent sheds. “We used three main jets and three pumping appliances. There was nothing in the building except sticks and firewood.” The owner of the property William Watt said the building was derelict and nothing of any value was destroyed.
