Fergie welcomes stars for run-in
Manchester United v Arsenal
DIMITAR Berbatov will return to the Manchester United squad for tomorrow’s crucial Premier League trip to Arsenal.
The Bulgarian has missed three games with a groin injury sustained in the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City earlier this month.
However, he is available now as United chase the victory which would end Arsenal’s flickering title challenge.
“Dimitar is fit again,” said manager Sir Alex Ferguson, pictured.
“He had a slight groin strain but he has trained all week.”
In addition, Ferguson confirmed midfielder Darren Fletcher had come t h r o u g h a 4 5 - mi n u t e reserve team appearance without a problem and is now in line to play some part in Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final decider with Schalke at Old Trafford.
“Darren came through fine,” said Ferguson.
“He is progressing and it is possible we could include him on Wednesday for another 45 minutes.
“It is good that he is back. He has put his weight back on (after a virus). He has worked hard in the gym.”
United have always known the next two weeks will determine their fate this season.
With Chelsea due to visit Old Trafford next week, the Red Devils are anxious to avoid having their lead cut to three points, although Ferguson is quite happy with the present situation.
“Two months ago, everyone was looking at these
matches as league deciders – and they probably are,” he said. “But we are going into them in good form, so why can we not win them?
“Teams are going to drop points on t he run-in, including Chelsea.
“Hopefully we get to a point where we need to win our last home game – against Blackpool – to win the league.”
Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has returned to action from a long-term Achilles injury with the reserves, but will not be rushed back into the first-team squad.
Midfielder Abou Diaby (calf) misses out, but winger Tomas Rosicky could be available after illness.
