Project’s award for excellence
A RAFT-BUILDING project has won an award for bringing together Banff teenagers and people with learning disabilities.
The group spent 14 weeks designing and building four entries for the Garioch Lions Raft Race in June and won a bronze Cosla award for excellence.
Banff Day Services manager Mark McDermott said he was proud everyone had worked hard.
He said: “Both younger people and those with disabilities developed mutual respect and understanding that demonstrated they suffer from very similar problems and barriers within their community.”
The group completed swimming lessons in Banff Swimming Pool and a day of rock climbing and abseiling to promote teamwork. The teams also raised £1,600 with a charity car wash.
