£40m Triple Kirks bid is backed by council

Evening Express (Extra Edition) - - NEWS -

COUNCILLORS have ended decades of uncertainty over the future of the city’s historic Triple Kirks by backing plans for a £40 million redevelopment. As revealed in later editions of yesterday’s Evening Express, Stewart Milne Group won planning permission to include the landmark A-listed tower and spire at Schoolhill in a new office complex for up to 700 people. Work could get under way next year on the remains of the 168-year-old building. The plans are the latest in a long list of schemes which have been put forward for the derelict site since the 1970s. The application was approved by councillors after a seven-to-four vote, despite objections from Aberdeen Civic Society and the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland.
