Slump sets off fears of re­ces­sion

RE­NEWED fears for the health of the global econ­omy has led to a slump in stock mar­kets in the UK, US and Europe.

The US bench­mark Dow Jones in­dex of shares sank 3.7% af­ter Lon­don’s lead­ing shares in­dex fell 4.5% – the 12th big­gest points fall in its his­tory.

The plunge came amid concern the world is slid­ing into a dou­ble dip re­ces­sion, with in­vest­ment bank Mor­gan Stan­ley, slash­ing fore­casts for global growth.
