The newly opened Mama Shel­ter in Mar­seille is the fol­low- up to the pop­u­lar Paris orig­i­nal. De­signed by Philippe Starck, it’s as slick and bonkers as you’d expect. In ad­di­tion to the 127 rooms, there’s a Mediter­ranean restau­rant (right) headed up by Miche­lin- starred chef Alain Sen­derens, whose sig­na­ture dishes in­clude Mama oc­to­pus stew served with cut­tlefi sh-ink rice, and foie gras ter­rine. For those with a sweet tooth, the pud­dings are a must – we’re head­ing down there just to try the molten cho­co­late cake with cof­fee fi lling and banana hot fudge.
