Yes, it’s an agri­cul­tur­ally themed, noreser­va­tions restau­rant on Char­lotte Street. Yes, a walk to the cel­lar bath­room, down an al­ley of dis­tressed cor­ru­gated iron, is like be­ing in a Dis­ney ‘Old MacDon­ald’s Farm’ fun house. But for­get all this: the food is won­der­ful. Bub­ble and squeak with black pud­ding and ap­ple chut­ney; home­made sausage roll served with pic­calilli; sticky chicken wings swimming in a pool of pa­prika, garlic and le­mon. Hedgerow shandy made with Wyld Wood cider, sloe gin and pink grape­fruit. Barn­yard is a lot of fun. Grace Dent does not gen­er­ally queue for din­ner, but she does queue for din­ner here.
