Clifford’s return is a timely boost for Harlequins

- Adam Hathaway

JACK CLIFFORD is set to make his return to action when Harlequins take on Grenoble in the European Challenge Cup tomorrow.

The 25-year-old back rower has not featured since he suffered a serious hamstring injury in April.

The setback capped off a desperate season for Clifford, who started just eight games in the entire campaign following shoulder trouble.

Clifford (right) is still in the thoughts of England head coach Eddie Jones and was listed as not considered, because of his injury woes, when the Australian named his autumn international squad yesterday.

His return, from the bench, is a boost for Quins after they lost Chris Robshaw for three months this week with a knee injury and is a timely fillip for Jones, who is struggling for back row numbers.

Clifford played in Jones’s first match as England boss, a 15-9 win against Scotland in February 2016, but has just 10 caps.

Grenoble began their Euro campaign last weekend with a 4 0 -1 4

defeat by Benetton.
