Fresh approach to jobs problem

KEY figures in Dundee will gather next week for a conference aimed at getting more people into work and reducing the city’s high unemployment rate (see page 19).

A different, more proactive approach is now being taken to help jobseekers identify vacancies they are capable of filling, and anything which helps people either take the first step on the career ladder or get themselves back into the labour market has to be applauded.

That, after all, is the very ethos of the Tele’s Let’s Get Dundee Working campaign.

A key element of next week’s conference will be the fact local firms will be at the heart of the discussions.

It is vital they are completely up to speed about the work being done across the city to get people as job-ready as possible.

It is also imperative that the conference is much, much more than just a talking shop and produces tangible results which benefit those in the city desperate to work.
