Three in court over alleged knife brawl

- BY SHEANNE MULHOLLAND

THREE men have appeared in court over an alleged knife brawl on a Dundee street, which left two of the men involved severely injured.

Charles Barr, 23, Reece Smith, 23, and Derek Alland, 22, all appeared in private at Dundee Sheriff Court.

Smith, of Kemnay Gardens, and Alland, of Dudhope Court, face a charge of together assaulting Charles Barr by struggling with him and repeatedly striking him on the head and body with a knife, to his severe injury.

The incident is alleged to have taken place at Kemnay Gardens on Thursday May 18.

Alland faces a further charge of having a knife, at the same location and on the same date.

Both Smith and Alland also face a charge of resisting two Police Scotland officers by struggling with them and uttering threats to one of the officers and their family. Neither of the accused made any plea or declaration to the charges on petition.

The case was continued for further inquiries and Smith and Alland were remanded in custody meantime.

Barr, of Haddington Gardens, also appeared in court on a separate petition, which is in relation to the same alleged incident.

He is charged with assaulting Derek Alland by struggling with him and repeatedly striking him on the body with a knife, to his severe injury, also at Kemnay Gardens, on May 18.

Barr made no plea or declaration to one charge on petition.

His case was also continued for further inquiries and Barr was remanded meantime.

Residents at Kemnay Gardens reported having seen a large police presence at the scene of the alleged incident.

An ambulance crew was also dispatched to the scene.

Officers remained inside a block of flats after the alleged incident guarding a home.

One onlooker said it was “like an episode of The Bill”.
