Katherine pitches up for TV’s battle of the choirs

-

A FORMER Craigie High pupil is looking to hit the right note as part of a brand new BBC talent show.

Katherine Adam, 31, from Dundee’s Craigie Drive, will be beamed into millions of households tomorrow during the second episode of Pitch Battle.

The series involves rival musical groups facing-off against each other, with the eventual winning choir scooping a £50,000 cash prize.

The BBC show is broken down into three segments — the show stoppers, the solo battles and the final battle. Speaking to the Tele today, Katherine, who will be singing as part of The Noteables choir, said she was “excited” to see herself on the TV.

She added: “I moved down to London in 2008 but I had previously been a part of the Thomson-Leng theatre group in Dundee.

“I’ve always enjoyed singing and thought it would be great to join a choir.

“I only joined last year. I liked the style of music the choir sang and they had a vacancy so I jumped at the chance to be a part of it.”

The Noteables describe themselves as a fun pop and acapella group, singing to escape their nineto-five jobs.

Katherine, a financial adviser, has to impress a star-studded judging panel, including Bafta and International Emmy award winner Gareth Malone and singing sensation Kelis. Katherine said her family, including proud father Bob, were “excited” to see the rehearsals of the show.

She added: “We were filming for three days i n Manchester i n May.

“We’ve been doing a l ot of rehearsing including choreography.

“My family were able to come down and watch the recording of the show. They were really excited to see us on the stage.”

Katherine was able to have a chat with presenter Mel Giedroyc, who previously presented the popular television series The Great British Bake Off.

Katherine added: “The whole experience including doing photoshoots has been really bizarre.

“We had a chance to meet Mel and she was so down to earth.

“Having the chance to perform with Chaka Khan was crazy.

“She was the special guest judge on our show but you do not get much better than that.

“I wasn’t nervous about performing but I was in these ridiculous high heels and I think I was more nervous of toppling over.

“I obviously can’t say too much about the result but we have had great laughs during the filming.

“I could never have imagined myself on Saturday night telly.”
