Fall in sex offender numbers

THE number of registered sex offenders in Tayside has fallen, the Tele can reveal.

Informatio­n obtained from Police Scotland via a Freedom of Informatio­n request showed that the number of people on the sex offenders register in the region on September 1 2017 was 350, down from 367 on September 1 2016.

In the Dundee City Council area, there were 147 people on the register — down from 157 on the same date in 2016.

In Angus, the figures dropped from 107 on September 1 last year to 97 on September 1 this year.

Perth and Kinross was the only council area of the three which make up the Tayside region that had more registered sex offenders on September 1 this year compared with 2016,

There were 104 people registered as a sex offender i n the council area on September 1 2016, a figure which rose to 106 by September 1 this year.

Overall, t he figures equal around a 5% reduction across Tayside.
