May Day talks on aus­ter­ity

A GROUP that cam­paigns against aus­ter­ity in pub­lic spend­ing is to hold a dis­cus­sion event look­ing at what can be done t o im­prove the sit­u­a­tion for pub­lic services in Dundee.

Dundee Against Cuts’ May Day Dis­cus­sion will take place to­mor­row from 7-9pm at Dundee Vol­un­tary Ac­tion’s build­ing, Num­ber Te n , o n C o n s t i t u t i o n Road.

The t wo-hour f orum wel­comes any and all con­tri­bu­tions from lo­cals fol­low­ing a num­ber of crises in the pub­lic sec­tor in re­cent months, in­clud­ing the cash cri­sis at NHS Tay­side and strikes by lec­tur­ers in higher ed­u­ca­tion.

In a state­ment, the group said: “One year on from the coun­cil elec­tions, and with re­cent strikes i n Higher Ed­u­ca­tion, a con­tin­u­ing cri­sis at NHS Tay­side, and Tory cuts still be­ing passed on to the peo­ple of Dundee, come along on May Day and share your thoughts on how we re­spond to aus­ter­ity.”
