Final touch behind the scenes for fashionable Dundonians
IT’S almost time to don your glad rags and be amazed by the talent on show at Dundee Fashion Week.
The finishing touches are being put in place for the catwalk show finale, which is being sponsored by the city’s Overgate shopping centre.
HND retail management students at Dundee and Angus College have made all the preparations for the show which will be held at the Caird Hall on May 13.
The 20 students have all been instrumental in the organisation of the event, with each taking on a different role.
Christy Winton, 19, has played a leading role in ensuring the designers and retailers get exactly what they want from the show.
She said: “My main job in the leadup to fashion week has been to phone each of the exhibitors and confirm if they need models supplied and if they would like assistance with hair and make-up.
“It was pretty nerve-racking at first but as I got used to talking to them it became much easier.
“Organising this has enabled me to get experience in fashion management which I have never been able to do before.
“It has been a really fun and exciting experience which will help me in my future studies.
“After I have completed my HND, I am hoping to go on and get my degree in fashion management.”
Now that Christy has ensured that each of the exhibitors has what they need for the show, she will be assisting them behind the scenes.
She said: “I will be acting as a wardrobe assistant for the exhibitors which means I will be helping to dress and style the models backstage.
“I will also be ensuring the clothes are kept in good enough condition to be handed back to the retailers.
“It is really important that all the clothes we use in the show are returned in good condition.”
Also playing a major role 19-year-old Catherine Youngman. is
Without her, the catwalk show couldn’t go ahead.
She said: “I have been working as part of the HR team in the lead-up to the event which means I have been recruiting the models who will be used in the show.
“I then allocate different models to designers and retailers to accommodate their requests.
“Myself and the rest of the HR team have also organised the running order of the show.
“I am really excited about the finale when I will be front-of-house
