Art and culture span generational divide at festival
AN invitation has gone out for people to attend a special day of activities and creativity in Dundee as part of the Festival of Museums.
A spokesman for Leisure and Culture Dundee said: “This day is going ahead on Saturday as we connect the historical and contemporary in this year’s festival at The McManus.
“The theme for 2018 is Generation | Dundee, inspired by our current portraiture exhibitions from Dundee’s permanent collections and Scotland’s Year of Young People. We’re encouraging audiences from generations young and young at heart to come together and explore and share their experiences of identity, family and community, with free drop-in activities throughout the afternoon.
“Highlights include showcase performances from local young musicians, dancers, and poets.
“There will also be curator and conservator gallery talks, with pop-up living history theatre performances that will take us back in time to reveal the lives of past generations of young people, including the Mills Girls, from Dundee’s jute mills.
“Visitors can even hang out with the 1960s’ Dundee Mods and hear tales from the Hap Coffee Bar.”
He said that event-goers can drop in and meet young people in an ID:Jam session and take part in lots of cool creative sessions that explore the theme of identity with the various activities streamed live and shared on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
