Dundee Dragons in a cup cracker

-

DUNDEE Dragons lost 3-2 at home to Raith Girls U/12 in a cup game which was enthralling from start to finish.

The Dundee girls tried hard and were unlucky to lose.

Dragons’ Samantha Lee Fyfe said: “Raith were a very strong team who made it clear they were wanting the win.”

Early on, Dragons caught Raith on the back foot.

Elise Salmond found a crack in their defence with a shot into the bottom corner of the goal.

However, Raith soon responded, running through with the ball to put in a high cross to the box.

Although the Dragons defence knocked it back out, the loose ball was collected and shot in at the far post to bring Rovers level.

Raith then netted a second.

This only served to stir Dragons up and they fired a barrage of shots into the Dragons goal.

Amy Smith eventually found the net after 17 minutes to end the first half 2-2.

The second half was end to end as both teams gave it everything to try to take the lead.

Both goalkeepers had to pull out everything they knew to keep their teams in the match.

However, Raith struck to take a 3-2 lead.

For the last 20 minutes, Dragons led a relentless attack on the Raith defence looking for an equaliser.

However, the woodwork saved the Fife team with the bar and a post being rattled.

Dragons kept the pressure on.

Unfortunately, their efforts proved to be in vain.

Samantha Lee Fyfe added: “It was a huge effort from the girls, even though they were defeated.

“They showed strength and character and that has to be applauded.”

The Player of the Match award went to Elise Salmond, who again played well.
