Drivers told to curb it or face threat of fines for parking on city pavements

FINES could soon be dished out to motorists parking on Dundee’s pavements.

A new bill making its way through the Scottish Parliament would see a nationwide crackdown on pavement parking to make the streets safer for pedestrian­s.

Dundee City Council could be given the power to fine motorists as part of the Transport (Scotland) Bill for certain offences.

Illegal and inconsider­ate parking has been a big concern throughout the city – with some residents claiming the situation is so bad that emergency services are unable to access their homes.

People parking on pavements in Upper Constituti­on Street have caused headaches for resident John McGuinness.

He is in favour of fines being issued to drivers.

And he said he had looked at the problem along with Dundee Pensioners Forum – of which he is a member – because the problem
