Ciaran helps Scots to victory

- By JAMES MASSON

DUNDEE’S Ardler Sports Complex was the venue for an amateur boxing show put on by the St Francis Club.

It featured a Scotland-Wales youth international with the Scots winning 5-2, one of their winners being the home club’s Ciaran Hunter.

The rest of the programme was made up of three other bouts plus two skills and one exhibition contest.

Scotland’s other winners in the youth international contests were George Stewart (Inverness), Lee Welsh (Jones’s, Stirling), Fawaz Ebirode (Byron, Aberdeen) and Gerard McTaggart (Rob Roy, Glasgow).

St Francis pair McKinley Lornie and Sam Johnston lost their bouts.

In other contests, three St Francis boxers all won, light-welter Stephen Donald scoring a point verdict over Arbroath’s Fraser Dand, light-heavy John Richardson stopping Kingdom’s Sean Matthew in round two and heavy Ryan Dolan netting a points success against Cameron Garden (Kirkintilloch).

St Francis duo Darren Barty and Sam Ferrie boxed an exhibition while nine-year-old Jude Blake (St Francis) and 10-year-old Josh Hunter (Lochaber) boxed skills contests versus Welsh opponents.
