Cladding has left flats with no character

-

WHAT was Dundee City Council thinking when it started putting insulation around the old stone tenements in Dundee – the likes of Clepington Road (pictured), Tullideph housing scheme, St Anne Street in Lochee, etc.

These houses are built using stones about a foot thick. I’m not a builder, but I doubt that much heat, if any, would be lost through these stones.

I used to admire the look of the old stonework, and now they have covered them in harling and it looks as though they were built yesterday.

They have lost all of their character and it’s a crying shame.

If there was heat being lost, it was probably the mortar that needed re-pointing, which would probably be cheaper and retain the buildings’ character.

It’s vandalism on a huge scale. But at least they didn’t bulldoze them as in the past.

Hold your head in shame.
