A Dundee paramedic has earned rave reviews after her performance on hit TV show The Voice.

Claire McCulloch featured on week six of the reality show as judges picked 10 artists to take through to the “battle stage”.

But it proved to be an agonising night for Claire, as the singer failed to impress the judging panel which includes Olly Murs, Will.I.Am, Jennifer Hudson and Dundeebound Tom Jones.

The judges insisted they were impressed by Claire’s performance – but they chose not to take her through.

Despite that, many Dundonians felt the Ska band singer should have been given the nod after her performance.

The 34-year-old had been filmed in the build-up to Saturday night’s show at various locations around the City of Discovery.

She insisted she loved her job in the Scottish Ambulance Service – but admitted she got a buzz from performing on stage.

Judge Tom, who will grace the stage at Slessor Gardens this summer, could be seen singing along as anxious members of Claire’s family looked on behind the scenes with presenter Emma Willis.

Claire received a standing ovation from the audience but admitted nerves had got the better of her during her performance when she was interviewed backstage.

After showcasing her talents on national TV, Dundee residents took to social media and praised the singer.

Punters admitted they couldn’t believe Claire hadn’t been given the chance to go through to the next round.

One said: “She could sing. Pity nobody thought the same.”

Claire admitted she was annoyed at herself admitting it was her fault before being consoled by her family.

She said: “I’m so annoyed with myself. I know I’m better than that. It’s the nerves.

“I’m absolutely gutted I didn’t deliver but I really want to come back next year.”
