POLICE have launched an investigation after a man died suddenly at a Dundee property.

Emergency services, including CID officers and two ambulance crews, were called to the Hilltown yesterday around 1.30pm.

Residents spoke of seeing up to three police cars in the street, with officers spotted going in and out of a tenement throughout the afternoon.

The force confirmed today the death of the man — believed to be in his forties — was being treated as unexplained.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police were called to attend the sudden death of a man in his forties at an address in the Hilltown area of Dundee. At this stage, his death is being treated as unexplained and a report is being sent to the procurator fiscal.”

Neighbours spoke to the Tele of seeing a heavy police presence swarm to the street.

Michael Stewart said he saw the emergency services pulling up outside the address just after 1.30pm.

The 46-year-old added: “I was going out to get a paper when I saw two ambulances and three police cars in the street.

“I realised there was something going on, but I wasn’t sure what.

“It’s not really that unusual to see emergency vehicles around here.”

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said they saw police and paramedics going into the building.

The resident added: “The ambulances and police cars stayed outside for quite a long time. Officers went into the building. They seemed to go upstairs but I couldn’t really see anything else happening.

“I didn’t see anyone being put in the back of either of the ambulances, although I saw one man speaking to one of the drivers before going back inside.”

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said they received a call around 1.40pm over concerns for a man.

The spokesman added: “We had two ambulances at the scene within four minutes.

“One left the location fairly quickly but another stayed on longer.”

The spokesman said it was usual for two ambulances to be despatched if someone had died.

Police emerge from a close in Hilltown and, inset, an ambulance at the scene.
