Welfare project a positive step

Evening Telegraph (Late Extra Edition) - - YOURVOICE -

BRINGING services such as welfare advice under the same roof as GPs must be the way forward for many of Dundee’s communities (see pages 4&5).

Often, health problems can be linked to other social issues — and so it makes sense that people can receive advice on a variety of different topics during one visit to their local surgery.

The link between the two is only likely to become more established as people go through the stresses of changes to the benefits system.

The council and the NHS can often be hauled over the coals for decisions they make which some feel aren’t always in the best interests of the public.

However, both authorities deserve credit for pushing forward with this innovative scheme.

And it’s great to see it gaining recognition at a national level too.
