Elderly man hurt in collision with car
A PENSIONER suffered a leg injury when he was knocked down on a Dundee street.
Police have launched an investigation after the pedestrian, an 80-year-old man, was involved in a collision with a car in High Street, Lochee, close to Grays Lane last night.
The man, who has not been named, was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital.
No details were available on how serious his injury was.
However, reports from the scene suggested he was able to speak to members of the public who went to his aid following the incident.
It’s understood that the driver of the vehicle was spoken to at the scene — however, an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is continuing.
The road was closed for about 40 minutes as emergency services dealt with the incident. A spokesman for Police Scotland said today: “Police Scotland, D Division are appealing for witnesses who may have any information regarding a road traffic collision which occurred at about 7.25pm yesterday on High Street, Lochee, near to Grays Lane, where a grey Honda Accord motor car was involved in a collision with an elderly pedestrian.
“Police are requesting that any person who may have witnessed the incident taking place call them using the 101 number and quote incident number 3116/14/11/2017.”
Alex Simpson, 83, who lives in nearby Burnside Court, said he and his wife Iris watched the incident unfold from their window.
Mr Simpson said: “It was all the blue lights flashing that first caught our attention.
“We looked across on to the High Street and were shocked to see so many emergency vehicles.
“There were quite a few paramedics and police officers walking around.
“The sky was lit up with the blue lights. There were so many that I thought something pretty serious must have happened but I couldn’t see what.
“The road was also closed off and a lot of cars were backing up.
“The whole thing must have lasted an hour.
“I’m really sorry to hear that an elderly man was hurt.
“It’s pretty busy here. I take care when I’m crossing the road in this area.”
