Fines paid after car clamped

Evening Telegraph (Late Extra Edition) - - FRONT PAGE -

A DUNDEE man who had avoided paying three motoring fines for more than a year paid up within hours of finding his car clamped.

The individual owed £450 in fines for three offences of not having insurance and had ignored repeated warning letters issued by the Sheriff Court.

A vehicle seizure order was issued by the court and the fines were paid in full.

A spokesman for the Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service said today: “Drivers face having their vehicles clamped if they do not settle their fines.

“They will have to pay additional clamping costs and mounting daily fees when a car is taken into storage.

“Vehicles are ultimately scrapped or sold off if they do not settle their fines.

“A new electronic interface between the Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service and the DVLA vehicle database has enhanced the ability to track down drivers with unpaid fines.”
