Firm fined over worker’s death
AN electricity firm has been fined £133,000 after a worker was electrocuted on a power line.
A Crown Office health and safety expert said Gareth Aitken’s death was “foreseeable and entirely avoidable”.
Mr Aitken, 26, died while supervising two junior colleagues working on the power line at Contullich Woods, Alness on August 2, 2012.
Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission, responsible for maintaining the electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland, pleaded guilty to breaking health-andsafety legislation.
