Firm fined over worker’s death

AN electricit­y firm has been fined £133,000 after a worker was electrocut­ed on a power line.

A Crown Office health and safety expert said Gareth Aitken’s death was “foreseeabl­e and entirely avoidable”.

Mr Aitken, 26, died while supervisin­g two junior colleagues working on the power line at Contullich Woods, Alness on August 2, 2012.

Scottish Hydro Electric Transmissi­on, responsibl­e for maintainin­g the electricit­y transmissi­on network in the north of Scotland, pleaded guilty to breaking health-andsafety legislatio­n.
