Thou­sands turn out to see top pipe bands

THOU­SANDS en­joyed the Scot­tish Pipe Band Cham­pi­onships in Dum­bar­ton.

The an­nual event on Satur­day, in Le­ven­grove Park, is the largest free pipe band com­pe­ti­tion in the world and at­tracts vis­i­tors from across the globe.

At­trac­tions in­cluded tra­di­tional High­land danc­ing com­pe­ti­tions, a fun­fair, a wide se­lec­tion of trader stalls and, pipes and drums from some of the best pipe bands in the world.

Provost Wil­liam Hen­drie said: “As the new Provost in West Dun­bar­ton­shire, I am hon­oured to be tak­ing on the role of Chief­tain for this won­der­ful event, which West Dun­bar­ton­shire has had the hon­our of host­ing for the last 18 years.

“Few events can boast the colour, his­tor­i­cal sig­nif­i­cance, the sounds and sights of a pipe band com­pe­ti­tion and the Scot­tish Cham­pi­onships is one that so many peo­ple look for­ward to.”
