Benfica confirmed for Canada friendly
- RANGERS have confirmed they will head to Canada next month to take part in a glamour friendly with Benfica,
Pedro Caixinha’s side have been lined up as opponents for the Portuguese giants for their annual Eusebio Cup clash.
The likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid and Ajax have all taken part in the competition in recent years.
Rangers will travel to Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario, for the match, which will take place on Friday, October 6.
They will play their final game before the international break against Hamilton on Friday, September 29, before they head across the Atlantic.
The Benfica tie will be the first time the Light Blues have played in Canada since their pre-season win over Ottawa Fury three years ago as Nicky Law scored the only goal of the game. It wasn wasn’t a completely polishedpolishe performance from Caixinha’s side, but it was another step in the right directiondire after a mixedmix few weeks at th the start of the campaign.ca Rangers d dropped points a against the likes o of Hamilton and R Ross County and we were beaten by Aberdeen and Celtic in front of their own fans last term.
The Ibrox crowd can be impatient when things aren’t going the Gers’ way, but Windass knows the expectation levels should be relished rather than feared.
“Before you come to the club, you don’t really realise how difficult it can be to play here sometimes,” he said.
“But you are playing in front of 50,000 and that is what you dream of as a kid, to play in front of audiences like that.
“If they get on your back, you have just got to blank it out and try and carry on.”
RANGERS’ fortunes may have fluctuated in recent times but they have received significant backing at home and on the road as the Light Blue legions look to roar Caixinha’s side to success this season.
