Roberts: We can’t be slow out blocks

Evening Times - - SPORT - By SCOTT MULLEN

“Absolutely, the Anderlechtnderlecht games are the key. Against PSG, if we turn up andnd have a bad day, and they have ave a good day, then that result happens.

“That’s the way it t is but we feel like we could uld have created a few w more chances against PSG if we’d played well.

“But if they turn up and play to that level, then it’s hard to stop.” PATRICK ROBERTS cursed Celtic’s sluggish start against PSG that left the Scottish champions with the toughest of mountains to climb on Tuesday.

But the Manchester City winger, who made his first Parkhead bow after returning on loan for the season, insists confidence in the Celtic camp over their European progression has not been dented as a result of the 5-0 thrashing.

Neymar put the Parisians 1-0 ahead on 19 minutes but even before that, the French outfit had the ball in the net only for the flag to go up to deny Edinson Cavani.

In truth, the home side never recovered from a whirlwind start by the visitors.

Roberts said: “I thought we could have made it more difficult for them from the first whistle, but that is something that we need to learn. We need to go for it from the start.

“The first half was sloppy. We knew their quality, the game plan was to try to keep the ball as much as we could but at the end of the day they are world class players and they punished us.

“You could sense that after the game. We let ourselves down. We should have played more of our game.

“It doesn’t damage confidence, they are a top side who spend millions on their team.

“People expect them to come here and put in a performance like that.

“We need to be at our best. And if you are not at your best they are going to punish you.”

Turning his attention to the game with Anderlecht, the winger added: “It is not going to knock our confidence, we will be sharp as ever going into the next game. We will recover and go again. “Every game in this grou group is important – they are all to tough teams, we kn know that. We n need to be 100 p per cent all the ti time.

“We have to be at it from the first whistle or else they wi will punish us and PSGPS did that.

“W “Whether it is Ande Anderlecht, PSG or Baye Bayern Munich we have to be at our best best.”
