Drax: We are only going to improve

PSG midfielder Julian Draxler has warned the rest of Europe that the French champions still have plenty of room for improvement – despite thrashing Celtic 5-0.

The German internationalist made a second-half substitute appearance in Glasgow on Tuesday night and played his part in the fourth goal after Mikael Lustig turned Draxler’s cross into his own net.

PSG, who spent a staggering £364 million on Neymar and Kylian Mbappe during the summer, are second favourites to win the Champions League behind holders Real Madrid.

Unai Emery’s side host Bayern Munich in their second Group B match on September 27 and Draxler insists there is still a lot more to come from the Paris club.

He said: “I hope we can improve because we have to if we want to go far in this competition. We’re happy for the moment but we we have to continue like this.

“Now the game is finished we’re looking forward to the next game in the Champions League against Bayern Munich at home.

“First of all it was important for the group stage that we got the first three points, it’s always important to start good.

“I think the teams know we are good but in the Champions League it is the small things that are important in the end. It’s a good start.”

Former Barcelona star Neymar and Mbappe, who has joined on an initial loan from Monaco, were both among the scorers at Celtic Park and Draxler insists it is no surprise that the pair have gelled seamlessly.

He added: “Good players always get to know each other fast and you can see that on the pitch.

“It was the perfect start to our Champions League campaign, in the first half we did a great job. At half time it was 3-0 and that made it a lot easier for us.”
